I've been listening to blues pretty much since I was born, in '77, and playing guitar in blues bands since I was 15. My father is also a blues muso, and more recently a blues DJ too, so there'd always be cool music around the house; from Bill Big Broonzy through the Chicago greats to stuff like Ry Cooder and Hendrix. I've been living in New Zealand most of my life but in 2001 I spent three months travelling and jamming across the USA, from Dallas/Fort Worth to New Orleans (where my guitar got stolen), Memphis to Chicago. I'm now living and working in London. Latest news: I have got 'the Paul Garner Band' up and running here in London. It features the impressive talents of Sardinian keyboard maestro, Claudio Corona, on Hammond organ, John Allen on double-bass and Jason Ribeiro on drums. We are gigging regularly at London venues such as Ain't Nothin' But blues bar in Soho and Green Note in Camden. See my new website for the latest info: www.paul-garner.com Old news: I have recorded an album in New Zealand. Love vs Blues features twelve of my original songs and three of NZ's finest blues musicians - a jazzy line up with double-bass and organ. Styles range from the latin-influenced title track, through the mardi-gras funk of Another Day In New Orleans, to the jump swing of Tequila Amnesia and beyond. It's an eclectic and sophisticated blues sound, held together by the songwriting and soulful guitar work. (Says me!) |
